Innovators Or Inventors – Who Are More Successful Businessmen?

This article from Spark blog at Qualcomm – Invention and Innovation: Barriers, Struggles, and Motivations got me thinking.

That article throws light on how innovators are basically process incremental experts. They study a process or a product and then come up with new ways at looking things or some changes that is improves and makes life easier. As the article says, in contrast, Inventors have no previous bases to compare to, so often they come up with ideas that are either put up too early or not in proper perspective. And we shouldn’t look down upon them for this.

Rahul Dravid as a role model for Corporate Managers

Everybody acknowledges the retirement of Rahul Dravid on Friday as a great loss to Indian cricket, though many say it was the right time for him to retire and he himself acknowledges it. I personally liked him as a player and his dedication to the game was legendary. If Sachin is a perfectionist at the game to be called the God, then Rahul is its most ardent worshipper. He worked hard and always has kept his head low and kept on doing the work that Sachin did in limelight of billion expectations. Though in open view it was his class of cricket that showed on field, but subtly he has been dishing out management lessons that one needs to be able to see. Lets see what they are.

Is Effective Operation Management behind success of Apple?

After reading this article on The Operations Room, which was posted in response to BusinessWeek’ s Apple’s Supply-Chain Secret? Hoard Lasers article, I now am able to understand, how did this company bounce back to write one of the most famous turnaround stories in recent times. And how it is still sustaining at the top. Recently it also crossed $500 billion mark in valuation (read details here). All this just goes on to show that, Tim Cook is one serious operations wizard, who caught the eye of Steve Jobs early and was perfectly chosen to lead Apple as he is doing so now.
